What is Gattara?

A cat card game with fast turns, bold plays and playful chaos

Gattara is a competitive cat card game where players collect, protect, lose and steal precious cat tokens. Every round is quick, interactive and full of timing decisions.

If you enjoy cat-themed card games, direct player interaction and quick matches that are easy to teach, Gattara was made for you. It is built for cat lovers, families, couples and game nights that need something fast, funny and memorable.

The game

Fast turns, clever timing and a table full of cats

Gattara is designed for players who want a quick card game with interaction, personality and enough chaos to keep every round exciting.

In Gattara, players use red, green and yellow cards to build and disrupt each other’s cat collections. Some cards help you gain cats, some make other players lose them, and some twist the flow of the round entirely.

Meow cards: are special reactions that can cancel an attack and double its effect onto someone else, turning a simple play into absolute chaos (chain reactions possible!).

The goal is not just to collect “the most tokens”. You race to reach the target score first, so every choice matters: play safe with low-value cats, or risk everything to grab the cats that make you a bigger target.

Token system

Not all cats are worth the same

Gattara uses a multi-level cat token system, so choosing when to attack, protect or hold back becomes part of the strategy.

  • Stray cats are worth 1 point.
  • Pedigree cats are worth 2 points.
  • Show cats are worth 3 points.

Player screens

Hide your cats and protect your score

Gattara includes player screens so your cat tokens stay hidden from the table. This adds bluffing, surprise and better timing to every steal, defense and comeback.

  • Hide your real score from opponents.
  • Force other players to guess who is ahead.
  • Make attacks, steals and Meow reactions more dramatic.

How Gattara was born

A cat card game created from a real idea on the road

In July 2023, we crossed the Swiss Alps on foot for a full week just one backpack each, and the occasional local train. Somewhere between lakes, mountain passes, and glaciers, a silly idea turned into a real game.

During that trek from Miralago to the Morteratsch glacier at 2,500 meters, we kept inventing cats, characters, and absurd effects with the cards to entertain ourselves along the way. The funniest part? We had nothing to write with. So we sent each other voice notes on WhatsApp every time we had a new rule, a new cat, or a better twist. After three days, my phone's memory was practically full of cats!

Three years have passed since then, and here we are, hoping that an independent card game designed for cat lovers might become a reality.
